BLACKBERRIES IN SEPTEMBER
Sunny morning in September, it’s beautiful and warm
I’m blackberry picking but they look a bit forlorn
The blackberries have gone over, shrivelled past their prime
Clumpy lumps of mushiness, a telling tale of time
Once shining jewels of juiciness, plump vitality
Now dull and grey and squidgy – I guess a bit like me
